You Know More Than You Think!
Article posted on Monday, July, 20th, 2009 at 5:17 PM
I wanted to write this post for everyone out there who may feel like what they know has been covered before, for the people who struggle to know if they will ever have a voice that others feel deserves listening too.
I know sure as hell I have been there!
If you are reading this blog you are either involved in or thinking about getting involved in the Internet marketing world.
When you get so caught up in information, advice, “systems”, advice and tactics it is VERY easy to forget one of the most important things. It doesn’t matter how short the road is you have travelled so far, you are 100% guaranteed to be further ahead than some people out there who are just starting out.
Remember, regardless of if you think everything has been done before, all the best products have been made and everyone knows what you know, (so how can you ever provide value?) there are people out there who still don’t know what an email list is let alone how to set one up. If you know, or even if you don’t know that either, you WILL have knowledge that other people want!
When everyone around us every day are either professional Internet marketers or people who are trying hard to become one, it is easy to forget that your customers don’t know what you and your peer group know! They are still hungry for information that may be second nature to you by now. It doesn’t matter how simple you think it might be, “one mans subconscious step is another mans mountain” show him how to climb that mountain and you not only have a customer, but most likely a raving fan and customer for life!
The big ol’ Internet is a HUGE place. It is literally world wide, there are thousands of new people just taking their first baby steps every single day. All of these people want to hear from you, in-fact, they NEED to hear from you!
Focus on what struggles you have overcome, what lessons have you learnt, what knowledge have you gained already on your journey? Imagine if someone gave you all those answers on day one, even if it was just how to be confident in front of a camera or how to actually change the theme to your blog! They would have been giving you extremely valuable information.
Make a list of those lessons and remind yourself, you know more than you think!

Hey Josh,
I love this post, it’s so true! It reminds me of a storey with a couple of teachers. One said to the other, “I don’t think what I am teaching is going to benefit anyone, it all seems so basic to me” and the reply was that “Of course it seems basic to you, you have the knowledge and experience about what you are teaching, the people you are teaching it to don’t, so for them it will be incredibly valuable”.
Like you, I believe everyone has something to offer, some just take their knowledge for granted.
Cheers,
Paul
PS. Excellent Blog mate!
Hi Josh,
Great blog, the beach looks good to!
Look forward to reading more posts,
Thanks
Keith
Hey Josh, these are wise words, well spoken. One of the recurring themes in my blog posts recently has been “We’re all stupid about something”. But there’s a flip side to that, and the title of your post sums it up beautifully.
Looking forward to more
Roger
Hey Josh

Hey Josh,
Nice to see your blog online (at long last!)
This was a great post and rings so true. Everyone has the right to put up their blog and teach those who are just a few steps behind them. I have found some early blog posts from genuine newbies taking the Alex Jeffreys coaching program inspirational, informative and entertaining and have really enjoyed being part of the community.
I’d like to think I can help people online, even if it’s just by telling them what NOT to do so they don’t waste as much time as I have, haha!
Keep in touch, I am sure we can work on some great stuff together!
David
Hey Josh,
I realized the exact point that you are making the other day when my mom couldn’t figure out how to add an attachment to her e-mail. Something like this is so basic to you and me but to some people this is really technical stuff. We really do take for granted what we know and we often think that there’s nothing that others can learn from us.
People like me and you are very lucky in the fact that we know things like HTML. We think of it as simple and take for granted the fact that most other people have no clue when it comes to technical stuff. Sometimes we just need to step back and say “Wow. I do know more than other people about some things”.

Hey Josh,
So true. A lot of the time I think I may not be getting anywhere, or that I’m a lot further behind other people. It’s useful to be reminded to take a step back sometimes and realise exactly how far we have come. I’ve actually learned a hell of a lot in my online misadventures, but it’s all too easy to focus on what I still need to learn rather than appreciating how far I’ve progressed.
Thanks for the reminder!

Hey thanks everyone for their comments and Dean, HAHA thanks bro! (SCHWEEEETTT comment from the Dean himself!)
Its really great to see some comments from the people above, I already know, like and respect you guys so having your input on my blog and you guys being part of the community here is just AWESOME, thanks for taking the time to comment!
I remember I first thought of this whilst I was driving to a client, I was organising my thoughts on how I was going to explain selling back end products to their already existing customers and how it costs MUCH less to sell to an existing customer effectively than it does to go out and find a brand new customer.
I realised, hey man, I know this stuff but these guys dont. I kind of take it for granted everyone knows this stuff because I talk to so many people who are clued up, intelligent AND in the same field as me.
It is what we do!
But, there is always knowledge you can offer to people that they dont know, even if you have only ever set up a blog and posted one post, thats VALUABLE info for some people!
Like Matt says, we take stuff like adding attachements for granted and do it on autopilot. The same is true with much of our other knowledge too!
Thanks again for the comments!
Josh,
Great pep talk for us the ones that walk slow (yet we walk); the Inspiration tag is most appropriate.
Amazing, your blog!
Jose
Hey Jose!
Thanks so much for the kind comments. I think the subject is an important one which MANY people forget when starting out because they focus much more on what they dont know rather than focusing on what they actually do know. Every day we learn more and gather more valuable information which in turn, makes us more valuable.
Thanks again, look forward to seeing you back here soon
Hi Josh,
What a GREAT blog & post! I keep hearing you on the calls & ’seeing you’ on the forum & have wanted to check your blog out…FINALLY!!! You help so many people, it’s wonderful to have you guys(quite a few helpful people)in the same class. I know that just by reading your blogs, I’ve learned a lot. Rob Canyon was very much of a life saver to me…and I was just trying to launch the blog!
Anyway, keep up the great work, Josh-I wish you the best!

Hey Josh!
That’s an awesome post, bro! It’s so important to remind people like us, who have more knowledge than most people starting in internet marketing, to remember the basics and teach them.
This is the exact reason why my first ebook will be written by telling my story from the beginning to where I am now. Throughout this time, I’ve learned MOUNDS of information and techniques that others desperately want and need to know.
It’s all about helping others and providing great value, man!
You’re doing an awesome job here. I’ll be on vacation next week, but we need to get our project with Matt up and running very soon!
Take care, bro.
