How Do I Embed Video Into My Site The Right Way?

Article posted on Thursday, July, 30th, 2009 at 4:11 PM

Today I want to talk about the number one question I get asked right now about working with video online.
How Do I Embed Videos The RIGHT Way On My Website, Quickly And Easily?”

Its a great question and one you need an answer to if you ever want to get serious about using online video in your business.

I recorded a video to tell you the answer to this question, how to do it right and to show you some cool software no-one has ever seen before that makes it stupidly easy to do! (It also lets you do some powerful cool stuff with your videos too!)

Check it out and please leave your comments to let me know what you think. I hope you find it helpful! :)

  • Hey Josh,
Wow! This product looks fantastic. I had always wondered what the “gurus” used to host their videos, never knew Amazon did hosting!

I am learning so much about video marketing just by watching the stuff you are putting on your blog so your Video Marketing Classroom is going to be a REAL education for a video newbie like me.

Your “Serenity” service looks great and you can count me in for when it’s released because a professional setup if I am going to get into video marketing a lot more.

  • Program looks awesome man!

You know, I use youtube and I’m going to start using Traffic Geyser to syndicate my content all over the web…

Why don’t you like using youtube to host your videos?

I can understand some videos you may not want on youtube – capture pages, secured content (stuff you’re selling), but video like above or free content you want to share, why not post them on all the video sites and not just your blog?

I see using site like s3 to host your free content to be limited exposure. They would HAVE to come to your blog this way. Potential viewers on youtube or viddler would never have a chance to see it.

Potentially, you can gain more traffic by posting to various video sites. The video descriptions can be used with SEO tactics also. I see it like having multiple video blogs and channels hosted all over the web and not just your blog.

    Your thoughts?

  • Josh, this is fantastic. As you know, like a lot of people, I am just finding my way with video, so I am definitely signing up for VMC. But your plans for your new beta product sound even better. I think that you’ve truly identified a niche for yourself in which you can excel and I can’t wait to see what you finally come up with.

  • Hey guys, thanks for all the great comments :)

Im gonna keep you all updated as to when its available and im really excited about it because its designed to just make life easier whilst giving some powerful features which is exactly what I feel most of us want!

I really appreciate the positive comments and feedback.

    Alex buddy!!

I DO use Youtube, Viddler AND Traffic Geyser in my business! My video here on the blog about where to start with video marketing covers Youtube, selecting the right tags, writing the right description and making it a hard topic rather than a soft topic and then how to actually upload the video etc. I did this because Youtube and similar have GREAT viral opportunity and can drive traffic. They are all effectively small streams of traffic that they can generate and its a great way to raise awareness. I also advise and do this with my clients. Traffic Geyser is great, I have been with them for quite a long time. Its a little expensive for what it does in my opinion but it IS worth the money.

I just havent started to get some of these videos up to my new account on Youtube for this blog etc. I certainly WILL be doing this ;)

Like everything though, technologies have their place, I wouldnt use Youtube to embed videos into my blog because of quite alot of reasons which I wont go into detail about here (I do cover them briefly in some of my videos, perhaps thats another post for another day) but that doesnt mean I wouldnt use it. I actively ENCOURAGE people to use it, for the exposure its something you HAVE to do and I will also cover this in the VideoMarketingClassroom courses.

However, launch pages, product videos, blog videos and the like, you need a scalable system and strong infrustructure to support what is effectively your business, and one which can be kept either unbranded or branded with your own stuff, thats where this comes in, for blog videos and your own site videos this software is going to save ALOT of time and give some powerful features. Just the opt in box pop up could dramatically build your list for example!

Thanks again for all the comments and I am glad to hear people are looking forward to the VideoMarketingClassroom launch as much as I am!

I will keep you all posted as to when the above software is ready to rock! (and give you a link to go get it ;) )

  • Hi Josh,

Until I watched that video, I had never heard of Amazon S3, well TBH, I had seen it in the source code on some sites I have visited, but never took the opportunity to look into it.

I am new to Video marketing, but can already see the benefits of your product already, especially the opt in feature.

    Keeping it simple suits me!

With reference to Traffic Geyser, are there any other alternatives out there? They seem to be the most popular and mentioned in most posts relating to Video Marketing and wandered why?

Thanks for helping me understand what Amazon S3 is now and I will wait for your version before setting up.

Look forward ot more helpful videos Josh, cheers

    Sean

  • Hey Josh,

I think I need to call you the King of Video Marketing! I’ve finally had the chance to watch your video (can’t really watch these things in an open place office at work) and you really know how to explain things to those that don’t understand or are at a newbie level for video marketing. You cut through the bullsh*t and that’s a really refreshing change! I also appreciate you telling us about the other products – I receive loads of emails every day (because I’m on about 10 million mailing lists!) so now I know where I shall be coming for all my video marketing solutions I know I can disregard all these other emails that come into my inbox.

Seriously – you need to know that my success through video marketing is all going to come down to you & what you teach me.

I can’t wait to get started!

  • Probably, I have to say “WOW”, but I woun’t.There are very big difference between one group of students and another.2 days ago I learned about some Video Contest. What contest could be between the newbies who never held a camcorder in their hands and such guys like Josh! It is a joke!

    • Hi Anatoly,

I really wanted to reply to this post.

As some people know, there is a competition currently underway for people lucky enough to be in the Alex Jeffreys private mentoring group for producing a video.

Now there are two ways you can look at this, one there are people like me who have worked with video before, have alot of experience and therefore think negatively and come to the conclusion there is no chance of winning, or alternatively recognise that by taking action you now have a contact (myself) who can help you go from strength to strength with video rather than struggling on your own and even perhaps help you win the competition.

Surrounding yourself with people who have more experience in the areas you have less experience in, is a surefire way to success if you also stay positive and take ACTION.

Looking at it as a reason to be defeated will only lead to negativity and a lack of action, there will always be people further down the road than yourself in certain areas. By coming together, learning from them and taking BIG positive ACTION to move ahead, you will better yourself and worst case even if you didnt win, you would of taken part in a process which taught you many things and made you better at a certain skill as a result.

I will be continuing to post free tips on this blog, as I have done, that will help you learn about video and my Video Marketing Classroom will soon be opening its free area packed with information, courses and lessons on getting better with Video Marketing. This is an opportunity to grow in an area which can really benefit you.

Take it with both hands, check back for the free tips I will be regularly posting and stay positive.

Good luck and I hope to see you back here in future.

      Josh

  • Nikki, I am so glad to see your comment and hear you say you are looking forward to the Video Marketing Classroom course. I have had alot of people tell me they cant wait for it and not only does that really encourage me to move forward and put even more into it but it also makes it that much more enjoyable for me, especially when I know I will see people get some very positive results out of it!

Thanks for the kind comments, however, any success you have in Video Marketing will be from you not me, sure you will learn some lessons and tips from me, but by taking that on and taking ACTION, it will be because of you that you will succeed.

I really look forward to seeing your results and growth with video marketing in the months to come!

    Josh

  • Hey Josh,

What a formal and sensible reply to me!

    Anyway, you said:

“Thanks for the kind comments, however, any success you have in Video Marketing will be from you not me, sure you will learn some lessons and tips from me, but by taking that on and taking ACTION, it will be because of you that you will succeed”

Now – while this is true, you are underestimating your influence in this. When people don’t take action it is often because they have no idea where to start, what to do, who to ask for help etc.

For example, you could ask me to conduct an orchestra. Would I have any idea where to start? No. (Other than waving a baton-stick-thing around!). So I wouldn’t conduct it (take action) without taking some tips from someone.

Providing a path to follow is all that most people need to enable them to take action. Your Video Marketing Classroom will be the path & guide that is needed to be able to make videos of your calibre. Yes, of course it requires us to take action, but some of us need someone to point us in the direction of the ‘right’ actions to take.

    Don’t sell yourself short.

    • Hey Nikki,

Great comment and well made! I agree, that is true, people do need to know where to start. That is my BIG aim with the VideoMarketingClassroom.com, helping people get up and running the right way and giving them the knowledge they need to see real benefits straight off.

      Thanks for the kind words!

  • Hi Josh,

I just watched your video – all 14+ minutes of it – which is RARE for me. Anything over about 5 minutes has to be good. Anything over about 10 minutes has to be VERY good. LOL!

I think you did an excellent job and you come across knowledgeable and therefore credible.

I'd like to know why YouTube is not the best option. I mean it has free hosting and I have used it a fair bit lately.

Well done with your site here.

Video King huh, Nikki? Gee, there are certainly getting to be a LOT of kings and queens on the net. Next we'll have rooks and bishops and knights. Then again… I suppose I have a Temple – maybe I should be a Shaolin Priest. Kwai-Chang Gary. OK, I'm being frivolous now.

To finish on a sensible note – great work Josh.

    Gary Simpson

    • Gary, thanks for the feedback and kind words!

The video was a little long but I wanted to cover everything. My longest on this blog was 30mins however! (Never again)

Youtube is GREAT to use for benefitting from the viral element it can provide, its also good as a free and very easy option for say video on your blog.

      The negatives however are:

      1) You cannot easily remove the "recommended videos" that appear after your video has played (there is a setting but alot of people dont know about it) This can obviously generate "traffic leaks" from your sites.

      2) The Youtube player is NOT the best player in the world and doesnt work well with some resolutions which others work better with.

      3) There is a perceived lack of professionalism when people see the YouTube branding.

      4) You would NOT want to use Youtube for a product or sales video player, there are quite a few reasons, firstly, its obviously not particularly professional, secondly, it may also show related videos after which could even be competing products! Finally, agian you have less control over how the video and the player looks and Youtube terms of service actually forbid using it for this sort of thing so technically you should never do it anyway. (i.e. use it for a sales page)

Youtube do not take kindly to HUGE traffic surges brought to your site from say a big launch or promotion and this can get your account into trouble, Something like Amazon S3 can handle this perfectly however.

To put it in context, I have done ALOT of video stuff lately on multiple sites both for myself and clients, all using my Amazon S3 account and my latest bill from Amazon was for a whopping $1.88

This gives me state of the art, industry leading video serving technology with neat features like automatically selecting quality by the viewers internet connection speed, auto selecting a server closest to the viewer so the video loads even faster and all the other benefits using an infrustructure like Amazon's S3 system gives you. Not bad huh!

I recommend using both, use YouTube for the viral element and use something like Amazon S3 for your blog and personal websites.

  • Hey Josh,

Well it looks like I found out about your software the day before launch.
Firstly I want to say that your blog and video training site have just found a permanent spot on my blogs and memberships tab in Firefox. I found out about your Easy Video Software through Mike Filsaime just yesterday but wish I found out alot earlier to get in on the beta testing. I have had my business domain at info4unowmarketing.com for several years now but have just recently started developing the site. I am very, very impressed with your software and have been looking for sometime for a solution to placing videos on my web sites and then I found you. I have joined your video training site and look forward to the release of your software. I obviously missed the beta testing process but am still excited to get your software. I will be patiently waiting in line tommorrow to make my purchase.
    Regards.
