Mike, you don't choose them, they choose you. The point is, through providing value and high quality, you turn subscribers into fans.

The experience that was engineered and created by Apple, whether it be through their marketing, the experience of using the product or their customer service, created emotions in the customers powerful enough to make them go out and buy the next product. Apple use emotion in their marketing to evoke emotion in their potential customers more effectively than many other companies today.

Josh, I completely agree with your assessment. I've practiced this in a former sales job that I had and it worked wonders. While all of my colleagues were cold calling between 50 to 100 people per day and struggling to make their sales goals, I would only place 3 to 6 calls per day and exceed my sales goal by 150% monthly. When someone asked me what my "secret sauce" was, I told them, "I treat people like people, not like cattle being processed. The most valuable customer is the one you already have, not the one you have to convince." Because I took a genuine interest in people, they felt it, told their friends and family to specifically deal with me, and getting fat commission checks was a piece of cake. Another ingredient is honesty. When our product or service didn't fit their needs, I was honest and referred them to where they could go, even if it was a competitor. People remember sincerity and honesty and it goes a lot further than you can imagine.

However, I would like to get your thoughts on separating your buyers from your freebie-seekers immediately. One marketer I know doesn't offer free anything as an opt-in lead magnet, but a low-brow offer like a $7 report. (He collects the appropriate info as part of the sales process). He says that all of his free content is on the blog, but he will only deal with "primed" leads. They're primed because they bought the $7 deal. Once again, what are your thoughts on this? Does this help with the "responsiveness" of your list?

Hi, That is true, but you never know who is going to opt in your list, so it's hard to choose your subscribers or fans. But I agree that you can focus on bringing quality stuff for your customers.

Hello Everyone :)

I'm so glad to find this blog. I purchased EVP2 and wanted to see more who is the guy behind it. Josh, your blog and this thread makes so different. I realized that many marketers focus on list building. I have just started my blog in which I want to do familiar way as you. I write reviews about products I own and I know they are good. EVP2 is on the list too. I want to make video to appear myself and tell people about fan rather then list. Taking into account myself I know that I'm one of those not so responsive to follow-up emails first of all when I'm pushed to purchase new list building eBook. LOL
I'm glad to see that many of you here delete such people not keeping up with pushing and pushing. Sometimes is hard to opt out, then I immediately indicate such emails as SPAM and go direct to bin.
Josh is right 100% ! Better have guns than unresponsive list.
Most of us opt-in to get something free and want to stay this way, right? It's like in real life, once you give cheap service, you will be always cheap. Once your price goes up, I'm sure many existing clients would go elsewhere. I want to stay honest with my fans when I get them. Giving and helping them have more value than list. I found so many BS products which won't help anyone to make better. Waste of time and money. There is nothing free and on auto pilot. We must work and help "auto pilot" to move forward. Software can make easier but not just install and forget, then tomorrow will be $3,567,897 on our PP account.
Good Luck Everyone ;)
